Two killed during police pursuit
May 5, 2012 - 10:48 am
A motorcyclist and his passenger were killed Friday night after engaging police in a chase.
Just before 10:30 p.m., a Virginia State Trooper tried to stop the 2002 Honda CBR600 motorcycle as it was heading north on Interstate 81 in Frederick County. The operator refused to stop and a chase ensued, police say, with the motorcyclist taking an exit for Route 11/Lee Highway.
The motorcycle ran three lights, striking a 2005 Pontiac Montana minivan at the third light.
Both the operator and passenger were thrown from the bike and died at the scene.
Police say both were wearing helmets.
The two adults and two children in the minivan were taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
