'Snow White and the Huntsman' poised to top box office

Daybreak Daily’s afternoon bite into the pop-culture apple finds snow that’s both white and dark, people who are too tan, other things, and the mystery music video.
This ain’t Disney’s Snow White: But whether it becomes a blockbuster is uncertain, per The Hollywood Reporter, “Snow White, the only new wide release of the weekend -- it’s opening in 3,772 theaters in North America -- should easily capture the No. 1 spot, coming in ahead of the second weekend of Sony’s Men in Black III, which grossed $54.6 million over the first three days of last weekend’s holiday frame. With MIB3 likely to post about $25 million this round, with the still-powerful The Avengers close behind that, the door is open for a Snow White victory.” http://bit.ly/L3mAhA
REVIEW: It’s dazzling but could use a bit more passion, per the Los Angeles Times, "Snow White and the Huntsman,"starring a fierce Kristen Stewart and an even fiercer Charlize Theron as warring sides of good and evil, is a baroque enchantment filled with dazzling darkness, desultory dwarfs, demonic trolls and beastly fairies. It is an absolute wonder to watch and creates a warrior princess for the ages. But what this revisionist fairy tale does not give us is a passionate love — its kisses are as chaste as the snow is white.” http://lat.ms/LNIKnM
REVIEW II: It stays true to history, per the New York Times, “There is something exciting about how seriously “Snow White and the Huntsman” takes its themes. Most of the fairy tales that have become fixtures of modern popular culture — including those, like “Snow White,” published by the Brothers Grimm in the early 19th century — emerged from the dark, violent folk landscape of early modern Europe. They are fables of innocence, but also of terror, dense with superstition and sexual anxiety.” http://nyti.ms/LOMgOK
TRAILER: Here it is, per Deadline Hollywood, http://bit.ly/LlEvk6
SNOOKI: And the rest of the gang get the band back together, per the AP, “The cast of MTV's reality series "Jersey Shore" moved into their summer rental in Seaside Heights to begin taping the 6th season Thursday. Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino was first to arrive as he unloaded his Jeep with a GTL license plate that reflects the cast's "gym, tan, laundry" lifestyle.” http://apne.ws/Klezc2
ON THE SIDELINES: Remember this guy?, per Rolling Stone, “When Phil Collins launched his First Final Farewell tour nine years ago, the name seemed to be a joke – but Collins wasn't kidding. He hasn't released an album of new music in a decade, and he's only emerged for a brief Genesis reunion tour in 2007 and a small handful of shows in 2010 to support his Motown covers LP, Going Back.” http://bit.ly/JWYe9I
FEUDING: A newfound popularity, per the Washington Post, “History officially broke its own ratings record with the third and final night of the channel’s “Hatfields & McCoys” miniseries. The last installment on Wednesday night landed 14.3 million viewers, which means that it’s now the most-watched, non-sports telecast on ad-supported cable in history.” http://wapo.st/JS92KK
MEL GIBSON: Speaking of feuding, per The Wrap, “Joe Eszterhas isn’t done with Mel Gibson just yet.The screenwriter has written "Heaven and Mel," an eBook recounting in colorful detail his relationship with the disgraced director that Amazon will release on June 6.” http://bit.ly/L42J4i
WHAT?: The following is an odd sentence, per Variety, “Thesps Heather Graham and Li Bingbing, producer Terence Chang and helmers Zhang Yang, Bela Tarr and Rakhshan Bani-Etemad will join jury prexy Jean-Jacques Annaud to judge the Golden Goblet prize at the Shanghai Film Festival. The fest will feature around 300 Chinese and foreign films at 28 cinemas across the city during the 15th edition of the fest, which runs Jun. 16 to 24.” http://bit.ly/LT6MB4
CARTOON CHARACTER: Expanding her horizons, per E!, “Beyoncé has signed on to voice a character in Epic, an animated 3-D extravaganza that follows a girl who is magically transported into a secret universe and finds herself at the center of a battle of good versus evil. She joins forces with "a ragtag group of whimsical characters" to save the magical (and, in turn, real) world.” http://eonli.ne/KRlE1m
KARDASHIAN ALERT: And a rocker, too, per the Daily Mail, “Kendall and Kylie Jenner proved to be quite the wedding belles at their half-brother's wedding in Hawaii yesterday. The teens acted as bridesmaids as Brandon Jenner said 'I do' to Leah Felder, daughter of former Eagles guitarist Don Felder, in Kauai.” http://bit.ly/L46UJm
SLIMMING DOWN: Again, per People, “Three years after she first donned the itsy-bitsy green bikini on a cover of PEOPLE, Valerie Bertinelli is ready to break it out again. "The green bikini is in my drawer just waiting for me to put it back on," the Hot in Cleveland star, 52, said at Thursday's American Heart Association's Wall Street Run & Heart Walk in New York.” http://bit.ly/LeDOJE
OF GHOSTS: And this potential trend is getting creepy, per THR, “Hologram technology also could spread beyond dead musicians. Think Marlon Brando performing A Streetcar Named Desire live onstage. Or a virtual Jimmy Stewart starring in a remake of It's a Wonderful Life. Or Hank Aaron breaking Babe Ruth's home run record in front of a stadium full of nostalgic fans. The adult entertainment industry, always quick to adopt new technology, also could make interesting use of holograms.” http://bit.ly/K2NBjQ
BRITNEY SPEARS: ‘X Factor’ problems keep coming up, per Us Weekly, “The trouble began May 24 at auditions in Austin. "When a contestant botched her hit 'Hold It Against Me,' she just left," says a witness. "She missed the next four auditions. People weren't sure if she was coming back." (Spears, 30, later tweeted, "LOL was just taking a little break people.")” http://bit.ly/L3XMZb
