Albrecht Muth, Viola Drath murder suspect, appears in court
Updated: June 21, 2012 - 12:31 pm
WASHINGTON (AP) - The judge in the case of a slain German journalist and socialite in Washington says he's hopeful there can be a trial this fall.
Albrecht Muth is awaiting trial in the August killing of his wife, 91-year-old Viola Drath, inside the couple's row home. He appeared in court Thursday.
The case has been on hold amid concerns about his mental health and a pattern of seemingly bizarre behavior.
A doctor's evaluation this week concluded that he was incompetent for trial.
Prosecutors say their own experts will start evaluating him soon.
Superior Court Judge Russell Canan encouraged Muth to keep making progress toward competency so that he can ultimately stand trial.
