Anthony Mastrogiovanni, alleged police impersonator, arrested
Beware when impersonating a police officer that you don’t pull an actual one over.
Anthony Kenneth Mastrogiovanni, a 29-year-old Crofton resident, apparently made this mistake.
Prince George’s County Police say that Mastrogiovanni was driving a white pickup truck on southbound Route 301 in Upper Marlboro at about 4 p.m. Wednesday when police say he attempted to perform a traffic stop on a man who turned out to be Capitol Heights police officer. The officer was in his personal vehicle at southbound Route 301 and Trade Zone Avenue.
Authorities then say the suspect told the Capital Heights officer that he was a military police officer from Louisiana and that he was speeding. The officer identified himself to the suspect. The suspect then left and the officer followed him until county police arrived and arrested him.
Mastrogiovanni was also carrying illegal blue-and-red emergency equipment in his truck, police say.
The suspect was arrested and charged with impersonating a police officer. He was released on his own recognizance.
