Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental takes first flight to Washington
Friday marks the inaugural flight of a new luxury jumbo jet, the Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental, from Frankfurt to Dulles, Va.
The plane, which is scheduled to land at Dulles International Airport around 12:45 p.m. Friday, will provide service between the two cities initially six days a week, excluding Tuesdays.
The aircraft, dubbed the “queen of the skies,” is environmentally efficient and has some really cool features, including a seat that converts to a bed.
Lufthansa German Airlines spokesperson Natalie Hartman appeared on ABC7's Good Morning Washington, where she shared her excitement for the plane's arrival.
Lufthansa currently has 20 Boeing 747-8 Intercontinentals on order, five of which are expected to be delivered this year. Eventually, airline officials say they will roll-out service to airports throughout the U.S. and India.
