Daybreak Daily’s afternoon brawl at the pop-culture club finds, well, a brawl, lots of attitude, a death, other things, and the mystery music video.
TOUGH GUYS: And cool, and hip, and gangsta, and whatever, per the Los Angeles Times, “News that New York City police are investigating an early Thursday morning brawl, reportedly between Chris Brown and Drake and their respective entourages at the club W.i.P. in Manhattan, will undoubtedly dominate hip-hop blogs for the coming days. But as details, tweets, video and denials emerge, let’s get one thing out of the way: Brown and Drake -- whatever this alleged beef is about, stop it immediately.” http://lat.ms/KGw1Ev
AND A SERIOUS TURN: Reports of shots fired, per the AP, "New York City police are investigating whether shots were fired inside a nightclub during a bottle-throwing brawl involving singer Chris Brown and Drake's entourage. Some witnesses report hearing shots during the dust-up Thursday morning at W.i.P in SoHo, but no one reported seeing a gun. Police are looking into the claims." http://apne.ws/KrYgtF
MEANWHILE: Nice, per TMZ, “One of Chris Brown's homies was throwing gang signs and making death threats at Drake's entourage in the moments before the NYC nightclub brawl ... this according to several witnesses. Eyewitnesses say ... Chris had been hanging out at his own VIP table with a posse of 16 other guys ... one of whom was a man with dreadlocks who was throwing gang signs and screaming at Drake's table. Witnesses say this man was the primary instigator in the brawl that would follow.” http://bit.ly/NDNTUM
OBLIVIOUS?: More like just the opposite, per the Daily Mail, “After sparking a massive bar brawl between her ex-lovers Chris Brown and Drake , you'd think that Rihanna would have opted to skip the drama and stay in the next (night). Instead, the 24-year-old singer decided to hit the New York streets with a posse of girlfriends. 'Chilling with my hoes @JaniseeAileen @TamaraWray Victoria @mforde11 @jennnrosales @NoellaAlstrom @aa_davis @sonyarbenson skeete #golebron,' the Barbadian pop star tweeted to her 20.7 million followers.” http://bit.ly/LrhuM9
WEEKEND ROLL-OUTS: One has gotten decent reviews; the other not so much, per Entertainment Weekly, “Tom Cruise and Adam Sandler, two box office titans (in very different genres), offer up their latest movies this week. Cruise stars in Rock of Ages, the ’80s-rock musical based on the hit Broadway show, while Sandler serves up his standard crass-and-proud-of-it comedy with the R-rated That’s My Boy.” http://bit.ly/M5rbCU
OBIT: Just the facts, per E!, “Yvette Wilson, the comic actress best known for starring in the '90s UPN sitcom Moesha and its spinoff The Parkers, has died of cervical cancer. She was 48.” http://eonli.ne/LNcFQL
PENMANSHIP: Looking good on vinyl, per Rolling Stone, “Detroit rocker Bob Seger, Canadian folk icon Gordon Lightfoot and longtime Meat Loaf collaborator Jim Steinman were among those inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame last night.” http://bit.ly/M6vcah
FATHER’S DAY: This is a neat compilation, per indieWIRE, “It's Father's Day this Sunday, and in celebration Indiewire has decided to offer a few picks for the best cinematic dads. Clearly there's many notable examples missing from the list, but here's the movie fathers that six of our staffers felt most warranted inclusion.” http://bit.ly/Ns7bgP
HIGHBROW HALLWAY: Walk this way, per the New York Times, “Woody Allen, whose new film is “To Rome With Love,” discusses four Italian movies that influenced him as a director: “Amarcord,” “Blow-Up,” “Shoeshine” and “The Bicycle Thief.” http://nyti.ms/LpI3D6
MUSICAL CHAIRS: This matters because. . .just because, per The Hollywood Reporter, “Pussycat Dolls star Nicole Scherzinger will join the judging panel on the new season of the U.K. version of Simon Cowell's The X Factor, according to British media reports.” http://bit.ly/LLHc1f
RUN FOR YOUR LIVES: Or at least stop laughing, per the Huffington Post, “Bristol Palin weighed in on her political future on Thursday, telling Fox News' Sean Hannity that she wouldn't rule out the possibility of running for office one day.” http://huff.to/L0wA0j
SURPRISE!: Katy Perry crashes her own viewing of “Part of Me,” per People, “Clad in a red floral dress with an open back, the "Wide Awake" singer popped up at the theater inside The Grove in Los Angeles just as the lights went down for the viewing to begin. Once Perry arrived, she told the crowd, "You guys are all so cute, even all the way to the back," an onlooker tells PEOPLE.” http://bit.ly/KyUz6Z
