WASHINGTON (AP) - Principal turnover at D.C. public schools reportedly continues to be higher than at some suburban school districts in the metro area.

The Washington Post reports that at least 17 school leadership jobs will change this year at D.C. schools. The figure represents about 14 percent of the system's principal posts.

The newspaper says the attrition is not as high as it was under former schools chief Michelle Rhee, but is still high compared to area school districts. It cites Montgomery County Public Schools in Maryland, where there was 10 percent turnover in 2011, the most recent year for which data is available. For the previous three years, turnover was between 5 and 6 percent.

In Washington, the turnover has resulted from resignations, retirements, terminations or other issues.
