Damone Brooks: Silver Spring school to raise funds to help injured former student
A local high school is uniting to help one of its former basketball players as he battles severe injuries following an accident.
Damone Brooks, 19, a former student and basketball player at Springbrook High School in Silver Spring, Maryland, was hospitalized on April 20 following an accident when he was rough housing with his friends. He suffered misaligned vertebrae in his neck as well as a bruised spinal cord, according to his website.
He is currently in rehabilitation at the Kennedy Krieger Institute.
Brooks was a freshman at Goucher College in Maryland when the accident took place, according to Gina Sanderson, the mother of Brooks’ girlfriend.
In an effort to benefit the Mid-Atlantic Spinal Cord Injury Fund and support Brooks, an All-Star basketball tournament will be held at Springbrook High School Saturday at 3:30 pm. The fundraising initiative was proposed by the high school basketball team and their coach.
The school is located at 201 Valley Brook Drive in Silver Spring, Maryland and can be contacted at 301-989-5700.
