A 9-year-old girl is being credited with helping to save a 4-year-old girl from drowning in a Manassas pool on Tuesday afternoon, but now police have charged the younger girl's mother with child neglect after they believe she left her five kids on the pool deck unattended.

Prince William County Police say that Giovanna Emeratr Narvaez, 23, took her five children to a community pool in the 8000 block of Ashland Avenue in Manassas on June 26. Police say that she left the kids, aged 1 to 8, unsupervised while she went to the pool's front desk to sign in a guest.

Shortly thereafter, police say that one of her children, a 4-year-old girl, was found at the bottom of the pool by another young girl who was swimming at the same time. Officials say the other girl, 9, was able to pull the 4-year-old, who wasn't breathing, to the surface. A lifeguard was able to resuscitate her with CPR.

The girl was flown to an area hospital for treatment and is expected to make a full recovery. In the meantime, Narvaez has been charged with three counts of felony child neglect.

Narvaez's charges are connected to the three youngest children - aged 1, 4 and 5. The other children are 6 and 8 years old. She was released on $5,000 bond.
