Man accidentally shoots son while cleaning gun

An elderly man accidentally shot his adult son while cleaning a gun Thursday afternoon in Springfield.

Police say the man, in his 80s, was also hit in the hand. He wasn’t seriously hurt but his son, who is in his 40s, is in the hospital, police say.

The son was wounded in the stomach area and his condition is reportedly very serious.

The shooting occurred in the 6200 block of Levi Court in Springfield.
