MPD officers indicted in K Street nightclub fight
Four MPD officers were indicted Wednesday in connection with a brawl at a K Street club that happened in June of 2011.
The detectives represent four of nine people that are facing charges in the wake of the June 10, 2011 fight at the Lotus nightclub at 1420 K Street NW.
During the incident, officials say that two patrons of the club got into a fight with several people, some of whom at the time were working as security and bouncers at the venue.
After reviewing surveillance video of the fight, though, three of the people involved were identified by their colleagues in D.C.'s First district as fellow officers.
After officials were notified about the officers' involvement, three of them were placed on administrative leave with pay. The investigation culminated on June 27 with the indictment of four officers - Yolanda Lampkin, Kenneth McRavin, Thaddeus Modlin and Nikeith Goins - in connection with the fight.
Authorities say two of the officers, McRavin and Modlin, repeatedly kicked and beat a man outside the club. Goins, is accused of not intervening. The fourth officer, Lampkin, is charged with lying to a grand jury investigating the assault.
24-year-old Walter Blair claimed he was so badly beaten by off-duty police officers acting as bouncers at the club that he lost an eye.
Officials say that McRavin, Modlin and Goins were all off duty at the time of the fight.
And Chief Cathy Lanier did react to the arrest of the officers saying, "There are no exceptions for those who violate the law. This reinforces our message that violence will not be tolerated no matter who you are."
But this isn't the first time Lotus nightclub has been involved in trouble involving off-duty D.C. police officers.
24-year-old Walter Blair claimed he was so badly beaten by off-duty police officers acting as bouncers at the club that he lost an eye.
The investigation into the incident continues.
