Prince George's exec forms new education panel
UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) - Prince George's County Executive Rushern L. Baker is creating an education commission to advise him on ways to improve the county's schools.
Baker tells The Washington Post that the 12-member panel will provide him with recommendations on how to move the school system forward.
The panel will include parents, educators and business leaders.
Baker says the panel will work with the school board and Superintendent William R. Hite Jr. and will seek to avoid duplication of effort.
Baker is scheduled to make a formal announcement about the panel on Wednesday.
He will also announce plans to work with the board of education to expand the county's science, technology, engineering and mathematics programs.
