Fairfax County Police say 26-year-old Robert Fenn, of Herndon, was taken into custody at Poplar Tree Elementary School in Chantilly and charged with 10 counts of child pornography.

Fenn’s arrest concludes a week-long investigation conducted by the Fairfax County Police Department Child Exploitation Unit and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations agents.

Word spread quickly at this Chantilly school where the kids are wrapping up the year.

“You wonder how that happens. You wonder how that doesn't go unnoticed by anybody.” Says one mother interviewed at the school. “It's just unthinkable. You just never want to hear it happen at any school around any child.”

This letter was emailed to parents this morning from Poplar Tree Elementary School's principal. She wrote: "We have no reason to believe that any of our students are in any way involved or directly affected."

The suspect lived with his mother in a Herndon neighborhood, where residents are learning of the arrest.

Police say evidence shows Fenn had been acquiring the graphic images for a long time, but declined to go into greater detail.

Police say the images were on his home computer, not his school computer. Fenn did not use school computers to store or access any of the information, police say.

As school let out today, many parents were upset about the arrest.

“It's disheartening,” says father John Soares. “You hate to see something like this happen. Especially in a great school like this.”
