Daybreak Daily’s afternoon perusal of the pop-culture magazine rack finds a move up from teen rags, a death, other things, and the mystery music video.

STRUTTING HER STUFF: Selena Gomez now a grown-up cover girl, per Elle, “At only 19, Gomez is mogul on the rise: a TV and music star, a fashion entrepreneur, and, as Justin Bieber’s better half, the envy of Beliebers everywhere. Now, with a string of gritty indies on the horizon, she’s poised to become Hollywood’s newest It Girl.” http://bit.ly/NTvJfc

MEANWHILE: More about the issue, which comes out later this month, per toofab, “Gomez talks briefly about Bieber -- and that time he rented out the Staples Center for a private date night screening of "Titanic." "If I'll share anything with you, it's that he really is a hopeless romantic. I had just mentioned it in the car - all I said is that I really want to see Titanic again, and then..." http://bit.ly/LCSnqj

OBIT: Just the facts, per the AP, “Bob Welch, a former member of Fleetwood Mac who went on to write songs and record several hits during a solo career, died Thursday of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said. He was 65.” http://apne.ws/MgNHFM

PROMETHEUS: It debuts for real this weekend, and here is an array of reviews, per the Huffington Post, “The highly anticipated Ridley Scott blockbuster -- which lives in the same universe as Scott's seminal 1979 sci-fi film "Alien" -- arrives in theaters with mostly positive reviews and many head-scratching questions.” http://huff.to/MhYRgj

MEANWHILE: The race to the top, per The Wrap, “For the first time this summer, Hollywood's not sure who's going to win the weekend box office. Whether it's to the deep-space terror of Ridley Scott's "Prometheus" or the wise-cracking critters of "Madagascar 3," it's clear the current No. 1, "Snow White and the Huntsman," is going down.” http://bit.ly/Ls2W2U

NEW GIG: Potentially, that is, per Deadline Hollywood, “Emma Watson is in talks to join Darren Aronofsky’s cast of Noah, which stars Russell Crowe as the Biblical ark builder. Watson is in discussions to play Ila, a young woman who develops a close relationship with Noah’s son, Shem.” http://bit.ly/KTNThK

WE NOW HAVE A COMPETITION: Of “Good Morning America” and “Today,” per The Hollywood Reporter, “It's hard to keep track of the ratings seesaw between the ABC and NBC morning shows in the weeks since GMA snapped Today's 16-plus-year winning streak in April. For those keeping score, GMA has picked off three additional weeks. But critically, Today is dominant in the 25-to-54 demo, winning 891 consecutive weeks as of May 25. (The relaunched CBS This Morning continues to lag.)” http://bit.ly/K5PyB9

GAGA FOR GAGA: But who are you calling a monster?, per Rolling Stone, “Lady Gaga revealed that her third full-length album is complete on her Twitter this morning. "Exciting news little monsters!," she wrote. "I've played my new record for my label and will be announcing my new Album Title in September!" http://bit.ly/K5QBkM

PERMANENT PIT STOP: They no longer need the keys, per the AP, “The comic mechanics on NPR's "Car Talk" are pulling in to the garage. Brothers Tom and Ray Magliozzi said Friday they will stop making new episodes of their joke-filled auto advice show at the end of September, 25 years after "Car Talk" began in Boston. Repurposed versions of old shows will stay on National Public Radio indefinitely, however.” http://apne.ws/LJAW7y

WEDDING BELLS: A Lone Star affair, per E!, “Matthew McConaughey and longtime love Camila Alves are taking the plunge. Sources exclusively tell E! News that the two plan to tie the knot in a "weekend affair" in the “Magic Mike” star's home state of Texas.” http://eonli.ne/LAMCLY

SHE’S LYING: So says an infamous hoopster, per Radar, “Kris Humphries is not at all happy that a "Kim Kardashian look-a-like" he has casually hooked up with a few times is telling the media she’s his girlfriend, RadarOnline.com is exclusively reporting.” http://bit.ly/Nme0zf

MEANWHILE: A similar scenario with no denials, per Us Weekly, “As Drew Barrymore said "I do" to Will Kopelman last weekend, he ex-boyfriend Justin Long was celebrating his birthday with a new girlfriend. A source tells Us Weekly that Long is in a "very new" relationship with actress Kate Mara.” http://bit.ly/LrYPUu

THE TONY AWARDS: Should be wide open, per the Los Angeles Times, “For those who like their awards shows with a modicum of suspense, Sunday's Tony Awards ceremony, otherwise known as prom night for glee club geeks, should provide a refreshing change.” http://lat.ms/MmA23x

MORE TONYS: Same perspective but with a twist, per the New York Times, “The horse race for best musical between “Newsies,” a high-energy show about 19th-century New York City newsboys, and “Once,” a low-key story of unrequited love on the streets of Dublin, is only one of an unusually high number of unpredictable contests at the Tonys.” http://nyti.ms/JRwrG9

AND FINALLY: Today’s mystery music video. http://bit.ly/KnINYh
