In the mad dash to report the outcome of the Supreme Court's ruling on President Obama's landmark health care ruling, a pair of media giants got it wrong.

At 10:08 a.m., CNN reported on its breaking news Twitter feed that the individual mandate, perhaps the most contentious portion of the law, had been struck down.

CNN also issued the information instantaneously on television. The same went for Fox News, who also reported that the high court had struck down the mandate.

CNN.com also posted a breaking news banner saying that the mandate had been declared unconstitutional.

After a period of time, both networks did correct course on television, the Internet and on Twitter and issue corrections.

In a statement released late Thursday morning, CNN apologized for their error in reporting.

"In his opinion, Chief Justice Roberts initially said that the individual mandate was not a valid exercise of Congressional power under the Commerce Clause. CNN reported that fact, but then wrongly reported that therefore the court struck down the mandate as unconstitutional.

However, that was not the whole of the Court’s ruling. CNN regrets that it didn't wait to report out the full and complete opinion regarding the mandate. We made a correction within a few minutes and apologize for the error."
