Suspects shoot man in face, rob him of iPhone, wallet
Around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, two suspects shot a man in the face, robbed him of an iPhone and his wallet, then fled the scene on G Street in Northeast Washington, police say.
Residents in the neighborhood say they heard a gunshot. And when they found out what happened, it only made things worse.
The two suspects don't appear to know the victim, police say. They were last seen wearing dark clothes running from the scene.
"Just a really sad case and one of the things we've been saying is that these robberies are really potentially very dangerous," says MPD Chief Cathy Lanier.
And as First District detectives continue to work the case, residents responded with a question: over a phone?
"You gotta watch yourself out here," Stevey Wessley says. "Because you could go in the store, come out, and you're dead. That's the way life is down here."
Police say the victim is in stable condition and that they do have a couple of good leads in this case.
