June 21, 2012 - 08:29 am
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - The Virginia Literary Fund will receive a $250,000 Mega Millions prize after the holder of the winning ticket didn't claim it.
The Virginia Lottery says the ticket expired Wednesday, 180 days after it was purchased in Virginia Beach for the Dec. 23, 2011 Mega Millions drawing.
The ticket matched the first five numbers for that drawing but missed the Mega Ball number.
The winning numbers were 3-5-8-18-29 and the Mega Ball was 14.
Unclaimed Virginia Lottery prize money goes to the Literary Fund.
The Literary Fund has received more than $211 million in unclaimed prizes since the Lottery began in 1988. .
