Virginia holds free fishing weekend
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) - Virginia is letting anglers fish without a license for free this weekend.
The Virginia Marine Resources Commission and the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries are allowing the fishing to occur through Sunday.
No fishing license of any kind is required this weekend for recreational saltwater rod and reel fishing during free fishing days. All fishing regulations, including size, season, catch limits and gear restrictions, remain in effect.
After the free fishing weekend, annual freshwater and trout licenses are $23 and annual saltwater fishing licenses are $17.50. Short-term licenses are also available through the game and inland fisheries department.
