MGM Grand casino executives are toying with the idea of building a casino at National Harbor. This week, executives are scheduled to meet with members of the Maryland General Assembly and Governor Martin O'Malley.

"I know I'm scheduled to meet with him this week,” says Maryland State Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller, Jr. “It's a very big name, and it would be wonderful if they came, but it's kind of far off."

MGM Grand owns and operates dozens of casinos worldwide, from Detroit to Macau.

But it all hinges on the fate of a bill that calls for a billion dollar casino here. It's so controversial that legislators couldn't decide during the regular session if the bill should go to voters. Now, they're returning in July to figure it out - and it won't be easy.

"Baltimore is going to try to block it,” Miller says. “Representatives from other areas, because they would be jealous of MGM they would be jealous of Prince George's County and we need to convince them that this is what’s best for the state."

Some residents have mixed feelings.

“I'm not sure if it would be a full benefit or a full negative,” says Bolling Air Force Base resident Jasmine Souder.

The general assembly is scheduled to meet for a special session on July 9th, and by mid-July the fate of gambling in Maryland may be decided.
