Daybreak Daily’s pop-culture roundup finds, among many other things, iron works at Comic-Con, studio executives playing hooky, and the mystery music video.
MARVEL’S MAN OF IRON: As opposed to steel, per toofab, “At a Comic-Con panel in San Diego, producer Kevin Feige said the company had four movies at different stages of development right now -- and showed new footage from one of them. First up is "Iron Man 3," which they're already halfway done filming. The first video from the film was screened for the roaring crowd.” http://bit.ly/Nw8Pep
MEANWHILE: It’s the parties, not the fan-filled convention center, per the Los Angeles Times, “Only a decade ago, Comic-Con was considered alien territory by most in Hollywood. But as superhero films such as "Spider-Man"and "X-Men" became big business, agents and producers headed down in search of new material they could adapt. By 2004, companies such as the United Talent Agency and William Morris Agency started organizing exclusive parties to fete their clients at night.” http://lat.ms/O2FuqW
MORE COMIC-CON: A look at Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Django Unchanged,’ per the New York Times, “(It’s) set for release by the Weinstein Company and Columbia Pictures on Christmas day. Mr. Tarantino, flanked by Jamie Foxx, Don Johnson, Christoph Waltz and others, took the stage at a late-morning panel to explain his movie, which does take some explaining. A term he used early in the presentation was “spaghetti surrealism.” http://nyti.ms/NLEQje
AND A FOLLOW-UP: Superman’s C-C sneak peak, per Entertainment Weekly, “Snap Judgment: Major. Goosebumps. (Director Zak) Snyder appears to have crafted a rich, regal, deeply serious, and quite emotional cinematic canvas for this iteration of Superman’s story, and the footage struck just the right balance between grand spectacle and human-scaled feeling.” http://bit.ly/NwiTUO
REALLY?: Again, really?, per the AP, “Concert organizers pulled the plug on rock stars Bruce Springsteen and Paul McCartney after the pair defied the sound curfew at London's Hyde Park, silencing their microphones at the tail end of the show. Springsteen had already exceeded the 10:30 p.m. curfew by half an hour Saturday night when he welcomed McCartney on stage and the pair sang (two) Beatles hits.” http://apne.ws/LrVMfv
DEATH IN THE FAMILY: Cause not yet known, per CNN, “The cause of death for Sage Stallone, the 36-year-old son of actor Sylvester Stallone, won't be officially known for another two months, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Coroner said Sunday. The autopsy on Stallone, who was found dead in his Los Angeles home Friday, was completed Sunday, the coroner's spokesman said. It normally takes six weeks for toxicology tests to be completed by the coroner's lab.” http://bit.ly/MzciX4
BOX-OFFICE REPORT: Move over, Spidey, per The Hollywood Reporter, “Ice Age: Continental Drift, the fourth installment in Fox’s prehistoric toon series, didn’t exactly sizzle at the North American box office this weekend, but the movie, which saw its cast of characters head to the open seas on a melting iceberg, kept afloat with an estimated $46 million opening. . . Sony’s Spider-Man, which dropped just 44 percent from its opening weekend, shifted into second place with $35 million.” http://bit.ly/NZLySv
GEEZ: Why the rush?, per Us Weekly, “She's been engaged to Liam Hemsworth for just over a month and already Miley Cyrus has babies on the brain. Set to tie the knot with the Hunger Games hunk, 22, bride-to-be Cyrus, 19, isn't worried about wedding planning as much as she is family planning. "Miley and Liam really want to have a baby quickly," a Cyrus family source tells Us Weekly of the couple, together since meeting on The Last Song set in 2009.” http://bit.ly/NLUECx
MEANWHILE: Going for a summertime look, per E!, “Cyrus has decided to change her light tresses for a lighter, blond 'do, and if it's true that blondes have more fun, then this party girl is in for quite a ride.” http://eonli.ne/MrpEWR
TOMKAT: Or something like that, per Radar, “Tom Cruise has been video chatting with daughter Suri ever since Katie Holmes filed for divorce last month, RadarOnline.com is exclusively reporting. As we previously reported, Cruise's famed attorney, Bert Fields, told Radar that the actor would be seeing Suri soon.” http://bit.ly/Nr1Ww6
AND FINALLY: Today’s mystery music video. http://bit.ly/Ls7UNu
