Arlington sexual assaults prompt emergency forum
An emergency forum will be held in Arlington to address recent sexual assaults in the area.
Growing concerned from residents, especially among young women, has prompted the Arlington Commission on the Status of Woman to host an emergency forum Thursday night.
The forum will be held at 7 p.m. at the Fairlington Community Center, located at 3308 S. Stafford Street.
The meeting will not only provide safety information, but will also feature several speakers, including representatives from the commonwealth attorney and a detective with the special victims unit in Arlington, who will share more about the investigation.
Two weeks ago, a woman told police she was sexually assaulted on the third floor of the parking garage attached to Ballston Mall.
Police say the woman was just steps from her car when a man ran up behind her and grabbed her. She screamed, and he ran off.
Two days before that attack, police say a young woman was sexually assaulted on the Four Mile Run Bike Trail.
The woman told police a man asked for directions. When she came closer, he took out a knife, dragged her into the woods, and raped her.
