Boy Scouts will continue to exclude gay people, committee says

A special committee of executives and volunteers from the Boy Scouts of America said Tuesday that it believes excluding gay people from joining or being leaders to be the "absolute best" policy for the century-old organization.

ABC News reports that the committee, which has met since 2010, said that the majority of parents involved in the Boy Scouts preferred to address sexual orientation issues within their family and not within the organization.

A spokesman for the organization said that the decision represented a "diversity of opinions" within the Boy Scouts, ABC News says.

However, at least one Eagle Scout told ABC News that the majority of people in the organization that he knows strongly disagree.

"We don't know who the people are -- they are not named and they are not willing to accept responsibility for their actions," Eagle Scout Zach Walls said.
