Brandon Wichert drowns in Rappahannock River
July 11, 2012 - 10:08 am
An 18-year-old drowned in the Rappahannock River in Fredericksburg on Tuesday, officials say.
Stafford County Sheriff’s Office says divers pulled the body of Brandon Wichert, of Spotsylvania County, from the water Tuesday night.
According to witnesses, six friends were jumping off of a rock into the river. At one point, they had jumped into the water while Wichert stayed on the rock. But when the friends turned to talk to him, they noticed he was no longer there, deputies said.
The friends searched for Wichert, but couldn’t find him so they called 911.
Authorities say his body was later located in about 8 feet of water near the area where he was last seen.
