Capitals sign Filip Forsberg, 11th overall 2012 draft pick
The Washington Capitals have signed forward Filip Forsberg, one of their 2012 first-round draft picks, to a three-year entry-level contract, the team announced Friday.
The 17-year-old Swede was ranked by NHL Central Scouting as the top European skater heading into this year's draft, where the Capitals selected him #11 overall. In 2012, he helped Sweden capture the country's first gold medal at the IIHF World Junior Championships since 1981. During that tournament, Forsberg was selected as the tournament's top forward.
He also scored 17 points in 43 games with his Swedish team, Leksand, last season. He's expected to remain in Sweden to play for his team during the 2012-13 season.
Tom Wilson, the Capitals' other first-round selection in this year's draft, has yet to sign with the team. He was taken 16th overall by Washington.
