One of the horses that was slashed during an incident in late April near Frying Pan Park was cut again this past weekend, Fairfax County Police say.

Police say that the horse, Lucinda, was in a paddock in a facility attached to the Herndon park late Saturday night when it was cut again. The incident happened between 8 p.m. Saturday and 10:30 a.m. Sunday, authorities believe.

On April 26, Lucinda and several other horses at Spirit Open Equestrian Park were slashed in a brutal attack that left several of them with deep wounds. All of the injuries were non-life threatening in that case, and Lucinda is once again expected to recover from the most recent cutting.

The wounds from the most recent attack are just inches from where Lucinda's original scars are located on her body.

"It's tragic that someone would do that and take this opportunity and fun away from the kids and ruin the animals in such a way," parent Heather Watson said.

The horses that were cut were part of a program that provided therapy rides for disabled children and adults. After the attacks, officials put up security cameras in an attempt to boost security at the facilities.

A month to the day later, several other animals at Frying Pan Park were attacked in similar fashion. On June 23, a 17-year-old boy from the Herndon area was arrested and charged with several counts of animal cruelty and maiming.

However, Fairfax County Police say that the suspect in those slashings has remained in custody ever since his arrest, so he was not involved in this cutting. At the time of his arrest, the suspect in the previous slashings was found with a 22-inch machete.

"This is something that's sends a message to Spirit and police...'We are still here and can do whatever we want'," Spirit Open Equestrian Center founder Davorka Suvak said.

The people who have been coming to the park for years thought that the horror was over when that arrest was made, but this weekend's attack has once again unnerved the community.

"It's quite unbelievable," Herndon resident Gabriella Kusano said. "It's a very quiet park and nothing much happens here. It must be a copy cat."
