A Florida utility worker who was in the area to assist in power restoration efforts in the wake of Friday's massive storm was killed Tuesday night when her bucket truck crashed in western Loudoun County.

Loudoun County Sheriff's Office officials say that 57-year-old Jacqueline Green, a Milton, Fla. resident and 22-year employee of Gulf Power, died in the crash that happened at about 7:20 p.m. Tuesday on Route 7 near Bluemont.

Authorities say Green experienced brake problems in her 2004 Freightliner bucket truck, which belonged to the Florida-based utility, while driving on Blueridge Mountain Road. She swerved around other trucks in her convoy as she went southbound on the road until she reached the intersection with Harry Byrd Highway, police say.

The truck then struck another semi in the eastbound lanes of Route 7, officials say, which then careened into a pickup truck. Green died at the scene. A passenger in the truck, identified as Jonathan Powell, was taken to Winchester Medical Center. His condition is unknown.

The driver and passenger of the pickup truck were treated and released from Inova Loudoun Hospital's Cornwall Campus. The driver of the semi involved in the crash was taken to that hospital as well for treatment.

"We extend our sincere and heartfelt sympathies to the family, friends and co-workers of our fallen colleague, who will be long remembered for traveling so far to help the people of Virginia in our time of need," Dominion Power officials said in a statement.

Sheriff's officials say that witnesses told them that Green apparently lost control of the truck's brakes on a downhill grade and continued to pick up speed as it traveled toward Route 7.

Green was driving in a convoy of three trucks which were part of a mutual aid agreement to assist Dominion Virginia Power in its power restoration efforts.
