Daybreak Daily’s afternoon perusal of the pop-culture world finds a diploma, a man comfortable in his skin, a mysterious religion, other things, and the mystery music video.

CAP & GOWN: In spirit, anyway, per the Guardian, “Justin Bieber has graduated from high school. While the singer's new album, Believe, tops the charts around the world, the 18-year-old was quietly celebrated at his alma mater in Ontario, Canada, last week. Bieber was one of 192 graduates at St Michael Catholic Secondary School in Stratford, which held its commencement ceremony on Thursday night. While the singer skipped the proceedings, his name was listed in the programme.” http://bit.ly/NelLnE

TOMKAT: Hello, Scientology, per TMZ, “The final straw in Katie Holmes' decision to file for divorce was that she was convinced Tom Cruise was going to send 6-year-old Suri away to a hardcore Scientology organization known as Sea Organization ... sources connected with Katie tell TMZ. Sea Org, as it is known, is where the highest levels of Scientology are taught and kids as young as five can be sent to live there ... without their parents -- and our sources say Tom is a big fan.” http://bit.ly/NVMzZ7

MEANWHILE: “Creepy, maybe even evil,” says media mogul Rupert Murdoch, per the Huffington Post, “The News Corp. chief executive took to Twitter to comment on the separation of Cruise and Holmes ... and he also took some jabs at their religion, Scientology.” http://huff.to/M0Rl8O

BET AWARDS HONOR WHITNEY: Many take part, per the Los Angeles Times, “Because Houston died Feb. 11, the day before the Grammy telecast, that awards show had little time to plan a tribute. BET filled that void. Monica and Brandy — the two divas whom Houston groomed over the years — gave show-stopping performances before Houston's mother performed “Bridge Over Troubled Water” in front of a large graphic of her and her daughter singing together. She, and the audience, shed tears.” http://lat.ms/QTZvCd

MEANWHILE: #@&#$!!!!!!, per the AP, “As compelling as that moment was, the show was also defined by its low points: Entire segments of performances, from Nicki Minaj to Rick Ross, were muted out due to foul language and obscenities, though several vulgarities were heard on air.” http://apne.ws/LRTgjU

LITTLE BEAR: The grown-up version, per The Hollywood Reporter, “Smashing records and setting off early holiday fireworks, Seth MacFarlane's Ted debuted to a massive $54.1 million at the domestic box office -- the best showing ever for an original R-rated comedy. It wasn't the only R-rated winner of the weekend. Steven Soderbergh's male striptease dramedy Magic Mike likewise overperformed in a big way, grossing $39.2 million. It's the first time in history that two R-rated movies opened north of $20 million on the same weekend.” http://bit.ly/Mo4wEh

GOING IT ALONE: The last Gibb, per jam!, “Bee Gees singer Barry Gibb is to launch a solo career in honour of his three deceased brothers. The last surviving group member lost his bandmate brothers Maurice in 2003 and Robin in May, as well as his other sibling Andy in 1988.” http://bit.ly/N48wnJ

BIRTHDAY GIRL: Perhaps you’ve heard of her, per E!, “Here's hoping for a nice, calm celebration. The headline-making Lindsay Lohan is turning 26 years old today, and with her busy schedule, we couldn't possibly think of how she'll spend her special day. Sleeping, maybe?” http://eonli.ne/N6JlVg

COOPER COMES OUT: And here’s a good read about it, per Andrew Sullivan of the Daily Beast, “Last week, Entertainment Weekly ran a story on an emerging trend: gay people in public life who come out in a much more restrained and matter-of-fact way than in the past. In many ways, it's a great development: we're evolved enough not to be gob-smacked when we find out someone's gay. But it does matter nonetheless, it seems to me, that this is on the record. We still have pastors calling for the death of gay people, bullying incidents and suicides among gay kids, and one major political party dedicated to ending the basic civil right to marry the person you love. So these "non-events" are still also events of a kind; and they matter. The visibility of gay people is one of the core means for our equality.

All of which is a prelude to my saying that I've known Anderson Cooper as a friend for more than two decades. I asked him for his feedback on this subject, for reasons that are probably obvious to most. Here's his email in response which he has given me permission to post here.” http://bit.ly/QVvfGW
