Police in Montgomery County are on the scene of a deadly police-involved shooting in Sandy Spring.

Officers were called to Urban Bar-B-Que, located at 805 Olney Sandy Spring Road, just before 5 p.m. Wednesday.

When police arrived, an armed man was in the screened-in porch section of the restaurant. He was ordered to put the gun down, but, police say, he made a gesture as if he was going to use the weapon, so the two officers fired.

The man died at the hospital from his injuries.

The officers, five- and 17-year veterans of the force, are now on routine leave, police say.

No restaurant patrons were ever in danger during the incident, police say.
