In a recent Washington Post Poll on the popularity of D.C.'s politicians, former mayor and current Councilman Marion Barry tops the list.

In it's mid-July poll in which it found most Washingtonians want Mayor Vincent Gray to resign, the poll also asked about impressions of other city leaders.

Marion Barry at 52 percent favorability topped the list at city hall.

"No, I'm not surprised," Barry tells ABC7. "I've given 31 years of service, excellent service."

The Huffington Post and ABC News online picked up the story that Barry was seen as most favorable, but the Post in it's news stories never pointed that out.

And Barry thinks that was intentional.

"That doesn't surprise me," Barry says. "They don't want me to look like I'm succeeding. But I'm not going to pay them any attention."

When ABC7 asked the Post about it today, we were told an article would come out today. And it did, from Mike Debonis, saying Barry's a polarizing figure.

Barry's overwhelmingly popular with blacks, with 81 percent favorable to 13 percent unfavorable

But among whites, he gets only 7 percent favorable, 85 percent unfavorable.

Barry--who had issues with drugs, went to prison, but was re-elected mayor afterward--told ABC7 he has no interest in being mayor again despite his numbers.

"With some part of the media digging under every rock and other things, it's not a scene that I want to repeat," he says.
