Mayor Vincent Gray rally in D.C.
WASHINGTON (AP) - Two prominent District of Columbia ministers are planning a rally in support of Mayor Vincent Gray, who's been battered by a scandal involving criminal activity during his 2010 campaign.
The Rev. Graylan Hagler of Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ and the Rev. Willie Wilson of Union Temple Baptist Church have organized the rally, which will be held Wednesday morning outside the district's city hall.
They say Gray deserves "courtesy and respect" as the federal investigation of his campaign continues.
Three members of the D.C. Council have called on Gray to resign in response to the revelation that he was elected with the help of $653,000 in illicit funds from a prominent government contractor.
Prosecutors called the effort a "shadow campaign."
Gray has no plans to attend the rally.
