Mike Green signs contract extension with Capitals
The Washington Capitals have signed defenseman Mike Green to a three-year contract extension, the team announced Monday.
Green's new deal will pay him $18.25 million over the next three seasons, a year after playing in just 32 regular seasno games for the Capitals due to nagging injuries. He came back to play in each of the team's 14 playoff games, t hough, scoring two goals and two assists.
The 26-year-old defenseman has spent his entire career with the Capitals, scoring 251 points in 398 career games. He also stands 4th among active NHL defenseman in points since 2007.
"Mike is one of the best young defensemen in the National Hockey League and is just entering his prime," Capitals GM George McPhee said in a statement. He will continue to be a key part of our team moving forward."
