Montgomery County post office stabbing leaves victim injured
Updated: July 27, 2012 - 09:39 am
An altercation over cutting in line at a Montgomery County post office led to the stabbing of a man Thursday afternoon, police say, and a Silver Spring man is in custody facing multiple charges, including attempted second-degree murder.
Witnesses told police that two men waiting in line at the Colesville post office on New Hampshire Avenue when one apparently got enraged and accused the other of cutting ahead of him in line.
The fight then escalated, according to authorities, until a woman who appeared to be a manager at the facility rushed from behind the counter. She was armed with a can of what is believed to be pepper spray.
Police believe the suspect, identified as 67-year-old Ray Alfred Young of Silver Spring, then stabbed the victim who he had accused of line jumping. Witnesses then say the suspect drove off.
A short time later, police say they pulled Young, who was still in pain from the stinging chemical spray, over and arrested him.
Young is behind held without bond on charges of attempted second-degree murder, first and second-degree assault and concealing a dangerous weapon. He'll face a judge on Friday afternoon in Rockville.
