Nats SS Desmond scratched from All-Star game

WASHINGTON (AP) - Nationals shortstop Ian Desmond has been scratched from the All-Star game because of an abdominal injury.
The decision was made Saturday after Desmond consulted with team doctors, management and NL manager Tony La Russa.
Desmond has been dealing with an oblique injury since mid-June. He has missed only one game this season, and having time off during the All-Star break should help the healing process.
Desmond entered play Saturday with a .279 batting average. He hit his 16th home run in the second inning of Washington's game against Colorado.
He was added to the All-Star team by La Russa. It was the first time Desond was selected to play in the All-Star game.
