Ocean City attacks leave residents, visitors worried
Police in Ocean City are issuing a warning to visitors following at least three attacks on women in the area.
The assaults started in late June, with the most recent happening very early Sunday morning.
"Um, that makes me feel really uncomfortable, and we're just gonna try to be more cautious," said beachgoer Gloria Pagley.
The resort town has long been known for its beach and boardwalk, but its nightlife scene is also a big draw.
The suspect in the three assaults and possibly one rape seems to be prowling near popular nightclubs along a stretch of Coastal Highway from 15th Street to 62nd Street, police say.
The victims have all been young women under the influence of alcohol.
Police say the suspects has attacked women walking alone after leaving the bar.
Ocean City resident Nicole Kuczak said, "It scares me to death, because I go out here, leave at 1:30. But never alone. But, it's terrifying. I hope they catch him."
The suspect is described as a 5'10" white male, 170 pounds, who is in his mid 20s to early 30s.
Police urge women to be alert and mindful that excessive consumption of alcohol has played a role in these crimes.
Police spokeswoman Jessica Waters said, "... we want to remind people if you've been drinking use those extra precautions and again travel with a buddy, use a well lit street and very heavily traveled street."
