The Federal Trade Commission wants residents to be aware of a scam   that takes advantage of the U.S. Supreme Court's recent decision on the Affordable Care Act.

Soon after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled on the president's health legislation last month, some senior citizens in the area started receiving calls.

The Attorney General's Office in Maryland and the federal government have received a lot of complaints from concerned citizens. Residents of Anne Arundel County seem to be the target.

Now, friends are looking out for friends by sending out e-mails warning others of the scam.

Crofton resident Roslyn Roberts says she's heard about it

"I got an email from someone saying it was going around," Roberts said. "It said to beware."

Those who've received the calls say the caller claims to be from the government and says now that the healthcare law has been ruled, they need to verify some personal information.

The caller goes on to asks for bank routing numbers, credit card numbers,
Social Security numbers and Medicare IDs.

"Your social security number, that is your life," Crofton resident Rhonda Fletcher added. "And once a person gets your social security number at that point they can do anything."
