UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) - The names and other information about people convicted of gun crimes in Prince George's County will be available to the public as a result of a database being set up in the county.

County officials passed a law in June authorizing police to operate a gun-offender registry.

People convicted of gun crimes will be required to register with police, check in regularly and submit to home visits from officers.

The Washington Examiner reports the attorney general's office says county police will have to disclose information on the registry when public records requests are made.

That includes names, home and work addresses, descriptions of the crimes committed and other information.

The information is public because the registry falls under Maryland's public information act.
