Robin Roberts talks bone marrow donation, MDS support
Last week, ABC7’s GMW visited GMA in New York, where Cynne Simpson chatted with Robin Roberts about her recent MDS diagnosis and how she is working to raise awareness for the disease.
Roberts, a breast cancer survivor, announced recently that she is suffering from myelodysplastic syndrome and is already receiving treatment.
Since announcing her diagnosis, the number of registrants in the National Bone Marrow Registry has more than doubled.
“It’s a great blessing for the families that have been waiting,” for donors, Roberts said. She was lucky to have her sister as a perfect match—which only happens around 35 percent of the time, she said.
Roberts said she was moved by the outpouring of support, particularly from D.C.—as her parents met at Howard University.
“I have felt the prayers,” she said.
