A Washington man has been arrested in connection with the killing of a 6-month-old puppy behind a Northeast D.C. convenience store that shocked and sickened the community.

The Washington Humane Society says that 24-year-old Sean Delontay Branch was arrested in Clinton on Wednesday and charged with one count of felony animal cruelty. He's accused of dropping a 100-pound cement block of the head of King Tut, a 6-month-old puppy, behind a convenience store.

King Tut was found dead on June 29 behind the Circle Seven Express store in the 1200 block of Mount Olivet Road NE.

"This extreme act of cruelty - one of the worst I have seen in my career - is indefensible, and we look forward to bringing to justice the person who committed this vile crime," Washington Humane Society Vice President Scott Giacoppo said.

Branch will be back in court on July 31 and is facing up to five years in jail and a $25,000 fine.

The Washington Humane Society is still offering a $2,500 reward for any eyewitness who comes forward with information. In the meantime, the organization is raising funds to memorialize the puppy.
