Virginia, Maryland new laws take effect
About 1,000 new laws are going into effect in Virginia and Maryland. The laws are focus on reproductive rights, taxes, breast cancer, guns and even sex abuse.
Some of the laws were the focus of intense debate during the last legislative session. In Virginia, a law HB 462, requires women to undergo ultrasounds before getting an abortion.
Another law repeals the one-gun-per-month purchasing rule while another explains exactly who is responsible for reporting sex abuse. The law was inspired by the Penn State scandal.
In Maryland, a law now allows Prince George’s County to operate at least one school on a year-round schedule.
