A 3-year-old boy who was handling a handgun was shot in the chest Friday in Hagerstown.
Police say the 3-year-old was stabilized and taken to a local hospital. The severity of his injuries isn’t fully known.
Police say the boy and his 7-year-old sister were playing in a parking lot in on W. Franklin Street. At some point, they located a handgun, a .22 caliber Beretta.
The boy was handling the gun when it fired, striking him in the chest. His sister ran to alert their parents, who then called emergency services.
