According to the results of a Centers for Disease Control study, the Magnolia State has the highest obesity rate among adults in the country. The study says that 34.9 percent of Mississippi's adult population is overweight.

Louisiana (33.4 percent), West Virginia (32.4 percent), Alabama (32 percent) and Michigan (31.3 percent) round out the top five most obese states in America.

Locally, the news is a little better. The District of Columbia actually ranks in a tie for the 4th trimmest state in America, but the stats still show that just under 24 percent of the adult population of the District is obese.

Virginia ranks tied for 15th on the list with Tennessee at 29.2 percent, while Maryland's 28.3 percent adult obesity rate ranks it 22nd.
