It's a story of a bond between man and man's best friend that has taken off online and epitomized the idea of devotion to who and what you love.
As reported by the Duluth News Tribune, John Unger has been raising Schoep, an 18-year-old rescue shepherd mix, since finding him at a Wisconsin Humane Society when he was 8 months old.
Nearly two decades later, Schoep is aging and arthritic, but Unger still does what he can to keep his dog comfortable. It's not yet known whether pain medication that was prescribed to the dog will work or not.
In the meantime, though, Unger takes Schoep out to Lake Superior to ease his pain, relax and fall asleep.
You can read more of Unger and Schoep's remarkable story in the Duluth News Tribune.
