Culpeper water main break forces boil water notice
A 12-inch water main that broke in Culpeper on Monday night has been repaired, but a boil water notice for several affected parts of town will remain in place for at least another day, officials say.
The main, which broke at about 7:45 p.m. Monday night on Blue Ridge Avenue, caused a loss of water pressure and, in some cases, a total water cutoff to some homes in the south end of town.
Despite the main being fixed, officials say that two consecutive lab tests must come back clear for the boil water advisory to be rescinded. Each test takes 24 hours to generate results.
Areas of town affected by the advisory include Blue Ridge Avenue and customers in Highpoint, at Culpeper Regional Hospital, Southridge, Three Flags, Friendship Heights and the Culpeper Baptist Retirement Homes.
