College Park Metro armed robbery suspect arrested
A suspect in a College Park-UMD Metro station armed robbery was arrested Friday afternoon.
The suspect was taken into custody on the train platform. Police used pepper spray to subdue the suspect because he allegedly fought with officers.
The robbery happened just before 2 p.m. at the Green Line station. Police say that the incident started with a reported robbery in the stairwell of the station's parking garage, during which the suspect displayed a gun.
"The Station manager said there was a guy with a gun waving it around and screaming acting all stupid and all hell broke loose and we had to head over there," says college Park resident Mark Hoffman.
No one was injured and no shots were fired during the incident, police say. Authorities aren't considering this an active shooter situation.
"The lady said get out of here get out of here somebody had a gun so everybody started running out of the station,"
says Sharmall Bussey, a College Park resident.
