D.C. region celebrates National Night Out
WASHINGTON (AP) - Cities and towns across the Mid-Atlantic region are making plans for the 29th annual National Night Out, the crime and drug prevention event.
The event is scheduled for Tuesday evening. In Washington, the evening will include community cookouts, candlelight vigils and athletic events.
In Annapolis plans call for a moon bounce, obstacle course and face painting. Smaller towns are also having their own events.
The Baltimore Sun reports (http://bsun.md/R9DS1H) Halethorpe, Md., will be participating in the event for the first time this year.
Halethorpe's National Night Out will include a block party, free food, games and giveaways as well as appearances by police and elected officials.
The event's sponsor is the National Association of Town Watch.
