Escaped inmate fatally shot in Queen Anne’s County
An escaped inmate was fatally shot by police in Queen Anne’s County after he allegedly broke into a home and stole a loaded gun and knife.
Police say an inmate walked from the Eastern Correctional Facility in Church Hill, Maryland just before 6 p.m. Wednesday. Prison guards discovered the inmate was missing during a check.
Police on Thursday identified the inmate as 25-year-old Michael Schluderberg
The inmate allegedly broke into a home in Centreville, and stole a loaded gun, ammunition and a knife among other things.
Sheriff’s deputies and state troopers later caught up with him on a farm, and tried to get him to surrender.
Police say the suspect reached behind him and appeared to be trying to pull something from his waistband. That’s when an officer fatally shot him.
Authorities say the inmate was a 25-year-old man was serving time for assault.
No police officers were injured.
The Queen Anne's County Sheriff's Office, the Centreville Police Department and the Maryland State Police all assisted with the investigation.
