Fairfax County tractor trailer accident kills driver
A portion of Fairfax County Parkway and a single lane of northbound I-95 is closed following a fiery tractor trailer crash that left the driver dead, fire officials say.
Deputy Chief Chuck Ryan, of Fairfax County Fire, says they received a call around 2:15 a.m. Wednesday reporting a truck on fire on the ramp from northbound Backlick Road to northbound Interstate 95.
Ryan says first responders found the tanker truck lying on its side, near the 7100 North ramp and I-95, fully engulfed in flames. The driver was found dead inside the cab of the trailer, Ryan says.
Authorities identified the driver as Edwin H. Hall, 59, of Charles Town, W.Va.
Virginia State Police say they believe he lost control of the truck.
It took crews about an hour to contain the blaze.
A single lane of northbound I-95 was closed, but reopened about 6:25 a.m.
The following closures remain:
- Exit 166B ramp to Route 268 NB
- Ramp from SB Route 268 to Route 1
Traffic is being diverted.
