General Electric dishwasher recall affects 1.3 million units
More than a million General Electric dishwashers are being recalled due to the units posing a fire hazard, officials announced Thursday.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission said that about 1.3 million GE, GE Adora, GE Eterna, GE Profile and Hotpoint dishwashers are affected by the recall. General Electric says that at least seven fires have been caused by electrical failures in heating elements of these dishwashers, three of which caused major fire damage.
The CPSC's website has a list of each model, model number and serial number that's involved with the massive recall. The units in question were sold in retail stores and installed by builder distributors between March 2006 and August 2009.
Officials urge people who have these dishwashers to stop using them and disconnect the electric supply.
