United States Park Police detectives are searching for a suspect in the sexual assault of a woman that happened in the Georgetown Waterfront area in early July.
Officials say the assault happened on July 7 near the intersection of 31st and M streets NW. After telling the victim that he would help her find her friends in the Georgetown area, he allegedly led her down to an area near the C&O Canal, pushed her into bushes and sexually assaulted her.
The victim was able to get away, police say, while the suspect was reportedly last seen near the canal on 31st Street NW.
Park Police officials describe the suspect as a white man with a heavy Australian accent in his late 20s. He stands about 5-foot-9 with short dark hair and a scruffy beard. He was seen wearing a polo shirt with white and blue stripes and shorts.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Park Police at (202) 610-8737.
