Jessica Nguyen murder trial continues
The trial continues for a man accused of murdering his 12-year-old step daughter.
David Hang is on trial for the 2011 stabbing death of Jessica Nguyen.
Much of the case against Hang is built on circumstantial evidence, so Wednesday, prosecutors focused on forensic experts in an effort to build a link between Hang and Nguyen's death.
At the home, a trace of DNA on the sheath of a small sword believed to be the murder weapon.
Prosecutors maintain that 43-year-old Hang repeatedly stabbed Nguyen to get even with her mother. They say Hang married Nguyen's mother so she could get a green card and eventual U.S. citizenship.
Prosecutors told jurors the couple planned all along to get divorced. But when Nguyen's mother put off the divorce, Hang got angry.
Prosecutors say Hang had already married another woman after changing his name. They say the woman has health problems, so Hang wanted to put her on his health insurance but couldn't because of his marriage to Nguyen's mother.
Jessica, a straight-A honor roll student at Gaithersburg Middle School, was found dead in the basement of her family's townhome on May 31, 2011.
In the days to come, defense attorneys are expected to describe their client as a gentle, loving man who had a good relationship with Nguyen.
